Pennypack Park Pedestrian Bridge and Trail

Philadelphia, PA

Land Survey, Civil Engineering & Structural Engineering Services

Hunt Engineering Company’s survey, civil engineering and structural engineering were part of the design team to replace an existing pedestrian bridge along the City of Philadelphia’s Pennypack Trail spanning a section of the Pennypack Creek as well as trail improvements to accommodate the new bridge. The project included demolition of the existing bridges structure and the design of new bridge supports, a new prefabricated steel single-span pedestrian bridge and trail improvements to accommodate the new bridge on each side of the creek. The survey staff obtained topographic data of both the existing land and creek bank conditions to aid in the design of the new bridge and determine in permitting for the structure and trail improvements. The civil engineering services included demolition plans, grading and site layout plans and site permitting. Hunt Engineering Company’s structural engineers prepared structural demolition plans for removal of the existing structure, designed the foundations and abutments to support the new bridge structure, and prepared performance specification and design requirements for the new prefabricated bridge.
